yoga and meditation

Hatha yoga provides an opportunity to unite the mind, body and spirit through skilled conscious movement, mindfulness and focus on the breath. Yoga and meditation is an ancient art of remembering our true nature by connecting to that stillness within ourselves. We all have a stillness within us, it is just a matter of tapping into that stillness, and allowing ourselves to be Present to that stillness. Yoga and meditation provide an opening.

The yoga taught at Bending Oak Yoga is strongly grounded in principles of physical alignment, while at the same time deeply “yoked” to the bigger context of living life with mindfulness and presence.  We strengthen our ability to attend to how curiosity, openness, acceptance and kindness show up in our lives.  As we strengthen our ability to attune not only to ourselves, but to others, we empower ourselves to make decisions which not only serve our greater good, but the greater good of those around us.

The physical benefits are:

  • Improved posture
  • Relief of muscular tension
  • Improved flexibility
  • Strengthened bones and muscles
  • Improved circulation
  • Reduced stress

The more subtle benefits are:

  • A sense of peace, joy, openness and contentment
  • A strengthened ability to be Present to what is
  • A strengthened ability to be detached and to let go of patterns that no longer serve us.
  • A strengthened ability to be less reactive and more responsive.
